Day 8 in the Books!

Day 8 was a bit of a rollercoaster ride again for the second straight day, I made some really questionable decisions which are obvious leaks in my game; and I have to learn to step away from the game for a second when I'm upset or have other things on my mind other than poker. I should have been up close to 100$ today but only finished up 43$, again it was a pretty decent day but again just like day 7 it could have been much better. But there are a few ideas I want to start working into my game, thanks to a few great ideas I picked up from Phil Galfonds posts over at 2+2, posts that are a few years old. My favorite one I picked up was this:

"There are more options than you think you have. Thinking outside the box, turning made hands that are good enough to call into bluffraises that turn out to be even more profitable."

And the other big one I'm going to hold with me and try to apply at all occasions is this:

"Every time the action is to you, it's an opportunity for you to make the perfect play."

Poker is a much deeper game than you initially think, and I'm going to continue to work as hard as I can, study the thought processes and ideas of great players and try to become a beast in my own right.

Stay tuned, because I'm going to the top.

Day 7 Recap!

I didn't have a chance to make a post last night after I finished up, and I had a long day of work today so I'm just now finally getting a chance to post about how yesterday went. I started the day with 215$ and some change, I decided not to immediately jump into the NL10 and just stick with the NL5 until I reached 230 and had enough to lose 3 buy-ins and still have 200, I'm weird like that. I didn't start of playing that well though, I was in a bad move and I probably shouldn't have been playing anyways, and I made 2 decisions that ended up costing me 10 dollars in the first hour. The first I had K10s on the button and was the first in the pot so I raised it up, and the BB flat called. Flop came down 4Q7, BB checked, I bet into him about 3/4ths the pot, he called. Turn came a K lucky me right!? This time he bet into me, and it just seemed like he was slow playing me with the Q, because a lot of players will check-call lead the turn when they hit the flop, so that's where I felt like I was, so I reraised him ending up getting all-in just to see he had AK, ouch. Next hand I had pocket 8's and was in the CO, there was an early raiser, and I just flatted to try to spike a set, no set and this time flop came down 2J5, I felt like I was still ahead and he lead out into me, so I reraised him, he flat called and the turn came a K, then he lead out again and I figured it was a toss up from him having AK, or AQ, I figured I'd be right enough of the time to shove and be ahead, or even to get top pair to fold. So I shoved, he called though, didn't even think about me having a set, and turned over AK, another AK, K on the turn thing.

After that though I settled down and started playing much better, started at 215, went down to 205 then back up to 232$ and some change, when I hit that mark I closed my NL5 tables and opened up to NL10 tables! Exciting! (Fiance showed up and I didn't get anytime to play after work yesterday or even finish the blog but here we go). The first half hour of the NL10 tables didn't go so well, the first hand I had KJs in the BB and the button raised and I flat called and someone who limped in early position also flat called. Flop came down 26K, and I did something I shouldn't do, I checked to the raiser figuring he would bluff at it. I checked, and both other players checked behind. Turn was a 9, this time I bet out, guy in early position folded and the original raiser check raised me, the first thing I thought was he spiked a set of 9's on the turn, but somehow I talked myself into him bluffing, which I promise you hardly ever happens at the micro stakes, if you just have top pair and you are raised, or check raised, I'd say at least 80% of the time more than likely more than that they have you crushed. But I talked myself into it and ended up losing 10$ on that hand because he did spike a set of 9's on the turn. Then I had pocket aces and ended up folding and losing 4$ and some change because I knew he had me beat. After starting out bad though I started playing much better, was down to around 215 again, and I closed out up to 236.18$ - so at the end of the day and the end of the rollercoaster ride I was up 21$.

After the way the day went though, I've decided to implement a new rule for myself, and that's if I'm ever raised by someone after I've lead out or if I'm check raised, I'm going to fold. The best +EV play in this situation, is to fold. Keep that in mind.

Day 7

So this is what my bankroll looks like at the start of Day 7

So, after 6 days I'm up to 215.53$, that's up from 73$ which is a 6 day profit of 142.53$. Which, I've played pretty close to 4 hours a day sticking to my plan, which means I'm making 5.93$ an hour, and I've done most of it 2 tabling, which means I've made about 2.96$ an hour per table. Which is a little more than 49BB an hour. My sample of hands though isn't very large, that's about 3,000 hands, and over a larger sample it's more than likely not possible to hold a rate near that high. 10-15BB per hour might be possible to hold at the NL5 over a larger sample, but even that might be a stretch.

Day 6 - 2 hour update

After 2 hours of play time, I'm up to 200.58$, I would have kept playing, but my fiance and I have to go look at an apartment, cool thing is though that if I want to later I have 20 buy-ins to play the .05/.10! So I've moved up one limit, on to the next! Stay tuned!

And some vids of the first part of day 6 play will be posted later when I get back!

Day 6!

Day 6 is about to be underway! Also, last night I nearly won an entry into the 100,000$ guaranteed tournament played every Sunday. There was a freeroll with 1300 entrants, with around 475 people left I had 15k chips and the first hand I got a guy all-in with KJ vs my AQ, flop came down A4Q, and of course the turn is a 10 and the river is a blank, lost 6k in that hand, would have been up to 21k. Then the very next hand this time with A-10, a short stack pushed on the button with 3k chips, I called, he turned over 8-5 suited, he hit a 5 on the flop and I couldn't improve. Put me down to a little less then 6k chips, and I couldn't really get any cards from there and ended up leaving in 221st place, with the top 25 getting a ticket for Sunday.

But day 6 is upon us!
So after 5 days and a starting Bankroll of 73$, I'm up to 182.08$, so I'm up 109$ in 5 days playing .02/.05, not bad I don't think.

Day 5 Update

Day 5!

Beginning Bankroll: $132.51

I'm going to try to put in a few hours today, not sure how much time I'm really going to have but I'm going to try to put in as much as I can; I missed yesterday since it was Christmas and I was spending it with family/Fiance. Stay tuned!

Day 4 - Calling it a Day

After 4 days and somewhere between 10-14 hours I'm up to 132.51$, from a starting bankroll of 73$, so I'm up 59.51$. So, that's roughly 5$ per hour playing .02/.05.

Playing a Set to Perfection (Day 4)

Day 4 vids

Day 4

Don't have much time to play today but I'm going to try to put in at least a couple hours while my fiance is with her family.

Day 3

Some vids from Day 3 of my attempt to climb through the micro stake limits, yesterday wasn't that great, after 4 hours I was up around 1.50$, which according to my spreadsheet doing 3 tables for 4 hours is 6.5BB/100, and I know that I only played two tables for a lot of the time yesterday, so in reality my BB/100 was at least decent for the stakes I was playing. I made a few bad decisions yesterday, like I lost 8 dollars on a hand where I turned the nut flush and the river paired the board, from the way he played the hand I felt like he flopped a set I just couldn't get myself to fold the hand, bad decision on my part. I could have been up a lot more if it wasn't for the mistakes I made.

Spreadsheet Vid

December 23rd! (Day 3)

I had to take a break yesterday and spend it with my girlfriend, who I'm happy to say is now my fiance after I proposed to her last night! We also decided to do presents early and she got me the new NOOK Tablet, all in all it was a pretty awesome night! But today I'm going to get back to it, before I do though I may work on the spreadsheet to calculate BB/100 and how much I can expect to make in a week/month and how well I'm doing.

Stay tuned!

Day 2 in the Books!

Second day of playing is in the books, started the day with 99$ and some change and I finished at an almost even 122. So 23$ in 4 hours of play today at .02/.05, which isn't too bad at all. I lost the spreadsheet I had made that calculated BB/100 and such, and how much I could make over a week or a month at a given rate, so I'm going to have to go back and rewrite all that so I have that spreadsheet again and to mark down how well I'm doing, or how bad I'm doing. But after 2 days I'm up about 50$ playing the lowest micro stake limit possible, let's see how well we can keep this up.

I'm baaaaack!!!

December 21st 2011 - Exactly 1 year before the end of the world!

I haven't played online poker in a couple months, but I'm back now and I thought it would be a lot of fun if I kept a blog going about the status of my play and the money I'm making. I'll actually be Video Blogging all of my play! So in reality it'll be vlogging! Last night I put in 73 dollars into my Bovada (Bodog's New Name) Account, and within 3 hours I had it up to 99$ and some change. Which is a ridiculous BB/100.... I just took a second to do the math on that lol, was just curious, but figuring in I was playing 3 tables at roughly 60 hands an hour per table, which would mean I played about 540 hands (which I know isn't right because I didn't play the full 3 hours) which means I was making 4.80$ per 100 hands which means at .02/.05 I was making 48BB/100. If only I could keep that over the long haul!!

But anyways I'm going to do this everyday, there might be a few days coming up where I can't since Christmas is in a few days and I'm going to be spending time with the love of my life who is pregnant with out first child, do in April! Right around my birthday too! So yeah I may not be able to play everyday the next couple weeks, but I'll do what I can.

I'm going to do my best to stick to a good bankroll management plan, only play at cash game stakes where I have at least 20 buy ins, of course I couldn't really do that last night because for the .02/.05 you would need 100$ for 20 buy ins, but it doesn't really mater because if I go under that amount it's not like I can move down in limits. Also, Instead of playing my general LAG style of poker, I'm changing up gears and focusing more on a TAG approach, pre flop mainly. And I'm also going to limit myself to playing only 4 hours a day, I find that the way I play when I get into this is too much and I burn myself out and start playing bad poker; because normally I'll play 12+ hours a day 7 days a week. I'm taking a smarter more refined approach this time, less risk and less mistakes, it's going to be a real grind.
